The Slowdown: Skywalker of Arabia
This month, Ian and Sujewa close out the first season of "The Slowdown" with a look at David Lynch's off-kilter 1984 space opera, Dune! Joining them to spice things up is Mike Crowley of You'll Probably Agree, who helps break down the film's bizarre politics, dramatic sensibilities, and the conditions that led to the director disowning the finished movie!
Kicking things off, though, is an update on Sujewa and Mike's various film projects, which both will be diligently bringing to completion as "The Slowdown" goes on summer hiatus. For those of you new to this miniseries, we invite you to peruse the "Slowdown" YouTube Playlist for in-depth conversations about the Slow Cinema genre--including works by Jim Jarmusch, Amir Motlagh, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and Nuri Bilge Ceylan!
Keep up with Sujewa via his blog NYC Fantastic, which includes his filmmaker-interviews series. Check out Mike's film commentary (written and recorded) at You'll Probably Agreeand watch Mike's new minute-long film, "Family Social Distancing", which was just announced as a winner in Asian Pop-Up Cinema's "Funniest Stay-at-Home Short Film Competition" (his entry starts at the 2:22 mark)!
