Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

FRIDAY THE 40TH Part 5: Roy's World

Just when you thought it was safe to return to camp, Ian and Lee resurrect their monthly Friday the 13th discussion with A New Beginning!

The controversial 1985 sequel is one of the earliest examples of a "soft reboot", with Final Chapter survivor Tommy Jarvis seeking treatment at a wooded home for troubled youth. When "Jason"-style murders begin happening all around him, questions arise as to whether the hockey-masked zombie has returned from the dead--or if someone else has taken up the bloody mantle!

Today's spoilerific deep-dive finds the guys once again piecing together the series' fractured continuity; diving into behind-the-scenes trivia about the film's troubled production; and even praising A New Beginning as one of Friday the 13th's boldest and most entertaining entries!
