Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep775: JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION (2022) - Round Table Review

Earth's Mightiest Critics return to discuss the movie 5 of you have been waiting for: Jurassic World Dominion!

In this raptor-ous livestream, the gang looks at Colin Trevorrow's conclusion to a trilogy that feels as unintentional as it does uninspired. Owen and Claire (plus a bunch of other characters whose names you for sure can't remember) team up with the three leads from 1993's Jurassic Park (whose names you absolutely do) to take on a world overrun with prehistoric predators. More precisely, they travel back to yet another mysterious island lab to fight bugs while the rest of the world pretty much carries on!

Our spoiler-filled round table isn't all negativity and snark: we draw some fascinating parallels between the new JP films and the Star Wars sequel trilogy; get into the resonance of Steven Spielberg's original film, and lament the influence of comic book movies on many new summer blockbusters!
