Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep758: MORBIUS (2022) - Round Table Review

Just when you thought there was nothing left to say about Morbius...

Earth's Mightiest Critics weigh in on the latest Sony/Marvel joint, which stars Jared Leto as a Nobel Prize-winning scientist whose quest for a solution to his rare blood disease leads him down the path...of vampirism?

Critics have lambasted Morbius, and you can fully expect that trend to continue on this panel. But at least one of the Mightiest sticks up for the MCU's resident bat-brain (two guesses as to who)! But in a surprising plot twist, this round table didn't turn out to be an hour-long bash fest. Instead, we got into the positives, the negatives, the "What If's", and the downright bizarre.

And stick around 'til the very end for one of the most shocking live stream endings in the history of the Internet (okay, maybe top one hundred)...
