Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep700: Page2Screen: STAND BY ME

For this landmark episode, Ian and Cole not only look at Rob Reiner's big-screen adaptation of the Stephen King novella, "The Body", they celebrate 700 episodes of the Kicking the Seat Podcast!

Four kids living in Maine (or is it Oregon?) venture into the woods to find a missing boy. Bullies, trains, leeches, and abrasive authority figures are just a few of the obstacles they face on their journey--which also includes a healthy dose of bonding and interpersonal conflict.

In this spoilerific discussion, the guys break down the differences between King's words and the screenplay by Raynold Gideon and Bruce A. Evans--which Ian calls "a perfect adaptation, if not a faithful one."
