Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep639: Hammerland: HORROR OF DRACULA and THE REVENGE OF FRANKENSTEIN

It's a double feature dipped in blood as Ian and Aaron review Horror of Dracula and The Revenge of Frankenstein!

In the latest stop on their "Hammerland" tour, the guys examine Terence Fisher's 1958 follow-up to Hammer Films' crazy-successful The Curse of Frankenstein. First up, Christopher Lee makes his debut as the debonair Dracula, squaring off against a version of Van Helsing (played by Peter Cushing) that's quite different from the character in Bram Stoker's novel.

Next, Cushing switches sides to play one of Ian's favorite movie villains. It turns out that reports of Victor Frankenstein's death have been wildly exaggerated, and the bad doctor sets up shop in another unsuspecting town--this time with better designs for the creature that bears his name!

Kick back, relax, and enjoy this spoilerific discussion, which covers deja vu, the evolution of Hammer Horror, and much, much more!
