Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Today, The Kicking the Seat Podcast wakes up Mike Crowley of You'll Probably Agree for a tenth-anniversary review of Inception! The first time Ian saw Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster dream-heist fantasy starring Leonardo DiCaprio, his reaction was, let’s say, less than favorable.

How does it hold up a decade later? And what’s the latest with its would-be sequel, Tenet? And who’s right in the whole cockamamie “mask” debate?

This installment has more wild tangents than a fever dream!

Also, Ian invites you to check out the latest episode of The Spoiler Room Podcast, in which he talks about the bizarre, star-studded gun-control satire, All the Rage (he also shills a bit for the Kicking the Seat YouTube channel—to which you should definitely subscribe!).

Episode 565 lets the spice flow!
