Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep671: A QUIET PLACE PART 2 - Movie Review

Ian and David make a lot of noise about A Quiet Place Part 2!

The sequel to John Krasinski's 2018 mega-hit was shelved by COVID, but the continuation of the Abbott family saga has finally clawed its way to the big screen. Emily Blunt returns to a world overrun by sound-sensitive killer aliens, and Cillian Murphy pops up as her battle-scarred survivalist neighbor.

The tenor of this spoiler-packed conversation is markedly different from their Part 1 love-fest (in which they were joined by ChicagoFilm's Lee Shoquist). Find out what's new, what's improved, and what's hopefully through as the series rockets toward an inevitable third chapter!

Also, Ian and David talk about their respective returns to the movie theatre after ten months away. Have things gotten better or worse since the lockdowns began, and what does the future hold for these lovers of the big-screen experience? Watch and find out!
