Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep306: We're All Ears!

Note (6/4/18): You may have noticed that this post disappeared from Kicking the Seat for awhile. There's nothing nefarious going on. It's simply a matter of having mistakenly deleted this entry while doing some site clean-up.

Whatever was covered in the show notes is now several months old--with the exception of the main topic, which is a roundtable review of John Krasinski's magnificent horror film, A Quiet Place. Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie and first-time guest Lee Shoquist of Chicago Film sat down with me at the AMC River East bar after an advance screening to rave about one of the year's unlikeliest and very best films.

Please enjoy. For my part, I'll be more cautious around that "Delete Entry" button.

Episode 306 once was lost, but now is found!
