Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep535: Late Screening: Alternative Facts

Today, The Kicking the Seat Podcast and Cole Rush of The Quill to Live reverse course with a "Late Screening" look at Christopher Nolan's Memento! Hard to believe it's been twenty years, but the Dark Knight and Dunkirk director's first widely acclaimed feature rode a wave of time-tangled, twist-ending thrillers to become one of the most memorable movies about memory loss ever.

The guys break down the film in spoilerific detail and lament the lack of similarly gripping, intelligent drama in the present-day multiplex.

Also, Ian recommends Sujewa Ekanayake's recent interview with former Newmarket Films creative director, John Crye, who helped bring Memento to the big screen!

Episode 535 still doesn't know who the f%!@k Dodd is!
