Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep536: Friday the 40th Part 5: Roy's World

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Lee Shoquist of ChicagoFilm.com return to Camp Crystal Lake for a soft-reboot soaked in blood! Yes, it's time to tackle Danny Steinmann's controversial 1985 sequel, Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, in which the kill count explodes while the amount of actual "Jason" recedes.

The guys talk timelines, behind-the-scenes drama, and speculate as to what might've been going on while Jason was actually dead.

Also, Ian invites you to celebrate 10 years of F! This Movie by joining tomorrow's live-tweet event, featuring The Funhouse and TurboKid!

Episode 536 is disappointed with Roy's lack of creativity!
