Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep453: Running Commentary: The Withouter Limits

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie head into the penultimate lap with a "Running Commentary" of Robert Towne's 1998 drama, Without Limits! In the first episode of this miniseries, the guys talked about Prefontaine, in which Jared Leto played 1970s running sensation Steve Prefontaine. A year later, Billy Crudup stepped into the same role, and this episode compares and contrasts the films to see which one comes out ahead.

Also, Ian and David reveal the winner of the "Running Commentary" contest; get in David's head during his last two weeks of training for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon (where he'll be running in support of the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless); and Ian gives a soft recommendation for the Swedish dramedy Britt-Marie was Here.

Episode 453 holds itself to a higher standard than victory!
