Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep454: Scare-a-Thon 2019: Eat, Drink, and Be Merrye

Today, The Kicking the Seat Podcast helps Aaron Christensen of Horror 101 with Dr. A.C. kick off Scare-a-Thon 2019! All month long, the good doctor will watch as many fright flicks as he can, all the while raising money to benefit the climate activism charity Amazon Watch!

In this installment, the guys look at Jack Hill's outrageous 1967 horror comedy Spider Baby, starring Lon Chaney, Jill Banner, and Beverly Washburn. They also remember co-star and genre icon Sid Haig, whose passing a couple weeks ago prompted Jon Kitley to write a brief and touching tribute at Kitley's Krypt.

Episode 454 loves running through the woods in lingerie!
