Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep448: Hammerland: A Brief Tour

Today, The Kicking the Seat Podcast embarks on another horror-themed miniseries with Aaron Christensen of Horror 101 with Dr. A.C.! With Scream Factory's recent release of Scars of Dracula on Blu-ray, Ian realized he'd never actually watched a Hammer Horror film.

The guys talk about Scars, Roy Ward Baker's oddball 1970 screwball love-triangle dramedy masquerading as a vampire movie, and also get into some of Hammer's rich history--which is destined to become part of the podcast's future!

Also, Ian reminds you to head to the Siskel Center tonight for the last screening of the excellent missing-person doc, When I Last Saw Jesse. Director Brian Rose will be on hand for a post-screening Q&A, and you should definitely put his film toward the top of your "Must See" list.

Episode 448 is undead and loving it!
