Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep447: Budding ROMANCE w/ Sujewa Ekanayake

Today, The Kicking the Seat Podcast catches up with writer/director Sujewa Ekanayake on his latest project, Slow Romance! The indie film is set to film this fall, and Sujewa talks about writing, casting, and shooting some gorgeous-looking test footage.

Also, the guys speculate about the future of independent film criticism, and how critics and filmmakers might team up to create stability in a landscape of dwindling corporate reviewer revenue.

You can check out the YouTube version of this chat to see Ian and Sujewa's in-progress studios, and their struggles to find the perfect camera setup! Be sure to subscribe, like, and comment while you're there!

Episode 447 is indie to the core!
