Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep443: Running Commentary: BRITTANY RUNS Amok!

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie return with a bonus "Running Commentary" episode! Earlier this week, the guys attended an advance screening of the new comedy Brittany Runs a Marathon, and there were quite a few runners in the audience who, like David, are in training for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon!

After the show, the guys interviewed a couple of enthusiastic fans, and also spoke with marathon coach/author Denise Sauriol about her book, Me, You, and 26.2, and her training site, Run for Change. This inspirational chat covers Denise's journey to realizing her dreams, as well as how she and David became friends.

Oh, yeah, and then we talk about Brittany Runs a Marathon, in what may very well be one of the most contentious film debates in Kicking the Seat's history!

Remember, you can support David and his team as they run for the Chicago Coalition for the Homelessand enter for a chance to decide which film we'll discuss in October's edition of "Running Commentary"--the last one before the big race!

Episode 443 is going the distance!
