Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep442: Running Commentary: FORT's Worth

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie pick up steam with a "Running Commentary" look at The Saint of Fort Washington!

Danny Glover and Matt Dillon star in Tim Hunter's 1993 drama about the bond between two homeless men surviving on the streets of New York. The guys get into the movie's pretext, subtext, and context as both a piece of entertainment and a cracked mirror of modern American culture.

Also, David shares more stories from his training for the Chicago Marathon, as well as his progress in raising money to support the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless. Listen in to find out how you can not only support a great cause, but also decide which movie Ian and David will discuss in October's final "Running Commentary" episode!

Episode 442 will melt your shoes off!
