Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep426: INTO THE ASHES with Aaron Harvey and Robert Taylor!

Today, The Kicking the Seat Podcast goes gritty with Into the Ashes writer/director Aaron Harvey and star Robert Taylor (Longmire, The Matrix)! The pensive modern Western opens tomorrow in select theatres and On Demand, and Ian spoke with two of the film's creative forces via phone about the state of filmmaking, the key to giving one's best performance, and the disappearance of the stolid male archetype from movies.

Also, Ian invites you to tomorrow night's Chicago premiere of Werewolf Ninja Philosopher at Facets Cinematheque(where he'll intro the 7pm screening and conduct a Q&A with writer/director Sujewa Ekanayake and star Art Shrian Tiwari)!

Episode 426 is no country for old men!
