Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep425: Running Commentary: THE RUNNING MAN

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie maintain their pace with the second installment of "Running Commentary"!

David is in training for the October 13th Chicago Marathon, and is raising money to support the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless. Each month leading up to the big event, he and Ian will discuss a movie dealing with running and/or homelessness.

Up next is 1987's The Running Man, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a wrongly convicted government pilot who must compete for survival in a deadly TV game show.

The guys talk about 80s action-movie sexism, the pluses and minuses of a Running Man remake, and a host of other issues--some of which are underscored with their best "Ahnuld" accents! Also, David gets personal with his training stories. Be sure to have some Kleenex handy. Or probably paper towels.

As a bonus, Ian and David review the outrageous new film from writer director Sujewa Ekanayake, Werewolf Ninja Philosopher! You could everything's in the title, but you'd be wrong. The movie will make its Chicago debut next Friday at Facets Cinematheque, with Ekanayake and star Art Shrian Tiwari on-hand all weekend for Q&A's after each screening!

Episode 425 will go to great lengths to jog your memory!
