Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep424: MIDSOMMAR School

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and breaks from the cult of Midsommar adoration with David Fowlie of Keeping it Reel and Emmanuel Noisette of Eman's Movie Reviews! Writer/director Ari Aster's follow-up to Hereditary has garnered lots of critical praise, and the guys go to insanely spoilerific lengths to explain why it doesn't amount to more than a pretty-looking cult movie with slasher-flick undertones.

This is actually the audio-only version of a YouTube video that went up yesterday, and Ian invites you to subscribe to the recently launched Kicking the Seat channel for bite-sized film commentary as well as long-form chats like these.

Episode 424 is the post-credits scene you never knew you needed!
