Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast celebrates Friday the 13th by sharing a scary-good interview with writer/director Jennifer Reeder--whose latest film, Knives and Skin, premieres tonight at the Music Box Theatre! The film centers on three suburban families torn apart by the disappearance of a girl in the local high school marching band.
The film is as hard to categorize as it is to resist, with its deft blend of horror, commentary on generational malaise, and the most brain-bending deconstruction of 80s pop music since American Psycho.
Ian and Jennifer keep the spoilers at bay during this wide-ranging conversation about themes, production, and feminism in Hollywood blockbusters. Suffice it to say, this is one of the best films of 2019.
Knives and Skin is available to rent On Demand, but if you'd like to experience it on the big screen and ask Jennifer Reeder about it in person, head to the Music Box tonight for a cast-and-crew Q&A following the 7:15pm screening (Reeder will also be on-hand following the 7:15pm show on Tuesday, December 17th).
Also, Ian positively buzzes about the latest Blu-ray box set from Scream Factory, The Fly Collection! in addition to running down the extras in this five-disc package, he provides a mini-review of the 1959 sequel, Return of The Fly!
Episode 483's lips are sealed!
