Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep328: Blurred Lines

Today, The Kicking the Seat Podcast looks at the new road trip movie, Boundaries, which opening in select Chicagoland theatres today. Ian sat down with writer/director Shana Feste and actor Lewis MacDougall to discuss the dramedy, which also stars Vera Farmiga and Christopher Plummer.

Ian reviews the film to start things off, and talks about how Farmiga's casting might not have been the best idea (as weird and as painful as that is to consider). Also, he addresses the Peter Fonda controversy, and asks listeners to keep an ear out for a reference that should have been stricken from the final film--but which may survived the cut.

Also, Ian drops in on the latest episode of the 90 Under 90 Podcast to discuss 2002's Jackass: The Movie with co-hosts Dan and Jeremy Eden!

Episode 328's big wheels keep on turnin'!
