Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep327: Late Screening: Science and Danger!

It's a podcast sixty-five million years in the making! Today, Cole Rush of ColeTries.com returns for another edition of "Late Screening", after watching Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park* for the very first time! How does the innovative 1993 summer blockbuster stack up to the parade of popcorn putridity it inspired? Is it really that smart of a movie? And why does that "Samuel L. Jackson" guy look so familiar? Ian and Cole can answer these questions, but they're not so sure that they should!

Also, Ian talks about some of the great screenings in store for audiences at the Music Box Theatre's awesomely weird Cinepocalypse genre film festival, which concludes its second year tomorrow night!

Episode 327 spares no expense!

*In the intro, Ian incorrectly refers to Jurassic World as the fourth sequel to Jurassic Park. It's actually the third sequel, and the fourth movie in the series. Send coffee!
