Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep298: Ask Forgiveness, Not Permission

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast takes a look at the unique found-footage thriller, Villain, with writer/director/star Dan Eden and actress Katie Binkley! From the geek roots of its inception to the gonzo nature of its filming, find out why the creators' efforts won't be recognized on the festival circuit anytime soon--and why it's vital that you watch Villain on YouTube right now (for free!).

Also, Ian reminds listeners that the first titles of this year's Chicago Critics Film Festival are about to be announced; and shares some thoughts on what may be his last Oscars telecast.

Episode 298 is sincere, sensitive, and utterly psychopathic!
