Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep212: Ido Fluk's Blind Luck

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast talks with writer/director Ido Fluk about his new film, The Ticket, which opens in limited release and hits VOD today, courtesy of Shout! Factory. What was it like working on an indie with the likes of Dan Stevens, Malin Akerman, and Oliver Platt? How did Fluk achieve the beautiful yet claustrophobic sensory effects that make the main character's blindness our own? And how did he walk the fine line of spirituality versus religiosity in his collaboration with co-writer Sharon Mashihi?

You're moments away from finding out!

Also, Ian shares some thoughts on a problematic plot point, and reminds listeners about this Sunday's special Music Box Theatre engagement of the 1927 silent-film classic Wings, which will be accompanied by live music from the Prima Vista Quartet!

Episode 212 won't just open your eyes, it'll help you see!
