Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep213: The Kitchen Sinks

This week, the Kicking the Seat Podcast shoots its way out of an identity crisis with Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie. Though Walter Hill's latest movie, The Assignment, might best be described as "Sin City meets The Room", Ian isn't sure that's a bad thing. David, of course, brings some sense to the conversation, which dives deep into a film he calls "utter trash". Can the guys find redemption beneath layers of bad prosthetics, ungodly logical fallacies, and scene-devouring turns by Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver?

You're just one click away from finding out the answers (and hearing the world's briefest and strangest eulogium for Don Rickles).

There are few certainties in life, but we guarantee you won't be the same after Episode 213!
