Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep218: DRIVING HOLLYWOOD with Dylan Brody!

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast takes a detour into the realm of spoken-word comedy with humorist Dylan Brody! His one-man show, Dylan Brody's Driving Hollywood, kicks of a worldwide tour next Wednesday, May 3rd, with a three-week engagement at Chicago's Apollo Theatre. The gentleman comic spoke with Ian about his evolution from stand-up performer to monologist; the art of refining material and stage presence; a prickly encounter with Marc Maron; and why Ian shouldn't swat his cat.

You won't want to miss this funny and insightful conversation about the glitzy and heartbreaking world of entertainment--or the show that inspired it. For dates and tickets to the Driving Hollywood tour, check out dylanbrodysdrivinghollywood.com!

Episode 218 may not be about movies, but Dylan Brody has plenty of seats to kick!
