Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep219: The Über Critic Takes Manhattan

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast soaks up the Tribeca Film Festival's vicarious thrills with Pat "The Über Critic" McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com! Pat recently returned from his first out-of-town movie-fest, and sat down with Ian to share his experiences on the red carpet; talk about a wonderful encounter in a not-so-wonderful press room; and offer advice on how to get the biggest bite out of the Big Apple's premiere cinema showcase.

As a bonus, you'll hear from a couple of the huge names Pat spoke to on his trip!

The guys also raise a cup of coffee to the late, great Jonathan Demme, and give a shout-out to Reel Honest Reviews' Pamela Powell, who was unable to attend Tribeca at the last minute.

If you can make it in Episode 219, you can make it anywhere!
