Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep115: MARTIAN of Error

On this week’s KtS Podcast, Matt helps narrow the 40,000,000-mile gap between Ian and popular opinion of Ridley Scott’s The Martian. How much do expectations play into one’s enjoyment of a movie? And is “watching too many movies” really a thing? The guys science the $#!+ out of this conversation in a lively, robust search for answers.

Also, Ian has the latest on Dr. AC’s Scare-a-Thon, and announces a very special Halloween event at Naperville’s Hollywood Palms Theatre (you’ll wanna wear your best red-and-green-striped sweater for this one)!

Bust out the ketchup packets and poop-tatoes, ‘cause Episode 115 is ready for launch!
