Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep116: THE FINAL GIRLS' REVENGE: A NEW BEGINNING

In a shocking twist, The KtS Podcast returns for its second episode of the week! Nick Allen of RogerEbert.com joins Ian for a look back on two divisive horror sequels from 1985: A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge and Friday the 13th Part 5: A New Beginning! The guys also fast-forward to The Final Girls, a brand-new genre homage making its theatrical and On Demand debut this weekend.

Before that, Ian shares "Scare-a-Thon" updates from Aaron Christensen and John Pata, whose month-long quest to raise money and awareness by watching horror movies is in full swing. And don't forget to mark your calendars for Friday, October 31st, when Ian will host a Q&A with Mimi Craven prior to the 7pm showing of 1984's A Nightmare on Elm Street at Naperville's Hollywood Palms Theatre!*

Spoiler Alert: One of episode 116's participants is secretly a grief-stricken EMT with an axe to grind!

As always, we invite you to comment, follow, like, subscribe to, and share Kicking the Seat on TwitterFacebookiTunes, and Stitcher! And whaddya know? Nick is also on Twitter!

*In the episode, I erroneously referenced the Web site as "hollywoodpalmstheatre.com"; it's actually "hollywoodpalmscinema.com". The link above will get you where you need to go.
