Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep02: Dead Weight / Several Kinds of Wonderful

By the skin of my teeth, I made it to a second episode! Lots happening this week on the podcast: amidst continued apologies and stammering, I somehow manage to announce the winner of the Dead Weight Improvie Contest, and introduce the audio version of the interview I did with John Pata and Adam Bartlett.

You'll also thrill to my thoughts on Bridesmaids and wonder what the hell happened to the story about my wife being out of town for the weekend.

As always, you can simply click the "Click to Listen" link below to launch the show, or right-click it and select "Save Link As" to bring it with you on the road or in the toilet--hopefully not on a toilet in the road.

Join me next week for more adventures in aural unprofessionalism! And, yes, there will be a next week.

Ep03: Larry Cohen / The Meh-vengers

Ep01: Holliston / All Apologies
