Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

The KtS Contest: Get Out Alive!

UPDATE: This contest has ended, with no entrants and therefore no winners.

To celebrate the August 26th season finale of NBC's Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls, Kicking the Seat and Partnershub have created the "Get Out Alive!" Contest!

To win, simply post your answer to the following question in the "Comments" section below:

"What is your favorite survival movie, and why?"

Get creative with your answer, 'cause I'm picking my favorite entry to receive an official Bear Grylls Survival Bracelet, created by Gerber! Taking advantage of Gerber's decades of experience and Bear Grylls' adventure knowledge, this survival bracelet's design provides 12 feet of high-strength paracord to help you work your way out of a difficult situation. Weighing less than an ounce, it has an easy, one-hand size adjustment and an integrated whistle!*

Contest closes at 11:59pm on Monday, August 26th, 2013.

Be sure to watch Get Out Alive Mondays at 9/8c on NBC. In the meantime, check out the blog app below for contestant interviews, a survival quiz, and action-packed GIFs from the show!

Thanks again, and good luck!

*You can also find the full range of official Bear Grylls Gerber merchandise at Walmart.

All prizes for the "Get Out Alive!" Contest and the Get Out Alive! Blog App are provided courtesy of NBCUniversal. Prize will be sent via FedEx or UPS. No P.O. boxes, please. Kicking the Seat will contact the contest winner within twelve hours of contest close. If no response is received within twenty-four hours, an alternate winner will be chosen. Contest is open to residents of the US and Canada only.
