Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

It's heeeeere! In honor of Poltergeist's 40th anniversary, Warner Bros has released a 4K Ultra HD edition of the film, and Ian is here to tell you about a couple of the extra features.

This is neither a review of the movie nor the upgraded video/audio quality of the new version. Rather it's an examination of a two-part documentary contained on the disc called, "They Are Here: The Real World of Poltergeists Revealed". It's a legacy doc that Ian watched for the first time, and he talks about whether or not it's a strength of this new release.

Also, Ian teases more Poltergeist talk next month, as the ramp-up to Spooky Season gets under way!
