Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep963: ARGYLLE (2024) - Round Table Review

Earth's Mightiest Critics whistled right past the January graveyard, and was set to return with a look at February's critically acclaimed, record-breaking new blockbuster from Matthew Vaughn.

But because Argylle has proven to be a spectacular critical and box office failure, this is sure to be a very different kind of discussion!

Bryce Dallas Howard and Sam Rockwell star in a spy film so bait-and-switch-y you may actually be able to sue Universal Pictures and Apple Original Films for fraud--no matter what kind of movie you were expecting!

Watch as we break down the good, the bad and the CGI cat! We also take your questions and comments in the chat, and try to figure out where the hell Henry Cavill went to!

Subscribe, like, and comment to the Kicking the Seat YouTube channel, and check out kickseat.com for multiple movie podcasts each week!
