Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep924: THE EQUALIZER 3 (2023) - Round Table Review

When the going gets tough, the tough review The Equalizer 3!

Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) finds himself at home in Southern Italy, but soon discovers his friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends' protector by taking on the Mafia!

Ian hadn't expected to fly solo for this one, but the podcast must go on! Watch as he muscles through the early stages of what would turn out to be a nasty COVID Weekend, while sharing his thoughts on why Antoine Fuqua's conclusion to the McCall trilogy is not only better than John Wick 4, it's also one of the most beautiful (and beautifully violent) films of the year!
