Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep861: Featured Extras: THE LEGACY OF THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE (2023)

Dark Sky Films recently released a new 4K disc of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Instead of doing the Internet's 5 millionth review of Tobe Hooper's landmark horror movie, Ian and Mark look at one of the disc's many supplements!

The Legacy of the Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a new feature-length documentary in which filmmakers and critics discuss...well, it's in the title. But is it worthwhile for diehard fans, or a talking-head retread of Wikipedia anecdotes?

Watch as the guys talk BTS drama, social commentary, and the dicey reputation of film critics!

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is now available on 4k UHD from Dark Sky Films.
