Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep852: ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA (2023) - Round Table Review

Earth's Mightiest Critics return to talk about a superhero movie!

Ian's year-long moratorium on caped content isn't up until May, but he's made an exception for Disney/Marvel's Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania (thanks to the enthusiastic urgings of his 5-year-old son).

So, yes, the gang is back together to review the further adventures of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), as he and his team of quantum adventurers get trapped in the realm of Phase 5 mega-threat Kang (Jonathan Majors)!

(Wouldn't a better title have been Ant-Man and The Wasp: Lang vs. Kang?)

In this heated and spoiler-packed round table, the EMC break down Phase 5's disappointing first entry; contend with the wildest collection of viewer comments yet; and welcome a special guest who closes out the show with a very different take on the film!
