Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep773: EVIL BONG 888: INFINITY HIGH (2022) - Movie Review

The Evil Bong series goes up in smoke with its 8th (and final...yeah, right) installment, Infinity High!

Ian and Mark conclude a "proud" years-long tradition of reviewing the latest in Charles Band's wild micro-budget saga, in which the titular toll tries to take over the world. The 59-minute diversion finds shady series regular Rabbit (Sonny Carl Davis) opening a French restaurant on Rodeo Drive. His efforts to go legit are cut short when E.B. (voiced by Michelle Mais) sprinkles his meals with hallucinogenic hash.

In this spoilerific review, the guys look at how oddly Evil Bong has aged: from its uneven depictions of sexploitation; to storytelling so insular it makes the MCU look like Blue’s Clues, and a counter-culture spirit struggling to find a voice (or anything to say with it) in an era where that very counter-culture has just become plain ol' boring culture.

Evil Bong 888: Infinity High is now available On Demand from Full Moon Features.
