Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep770: Son of Hammerland: THE CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF (1961)

Things get hairy as Ian and AC succumb to The Curse of the Werewolf!

Director Terence Fisher and screenwriter Anthon Hinds reimagine the wolfman mythos in a film unlike any of its kind. Oliver Reed stars as Leon, a troubled young man whose full-moon transformations become the terror of a small Spanish town. Superstition, prejudice, and the beastly underbelly of human nature burst from the screen in this sensational drama that happens to contain supernatural monsters.

The guys look at the film's bizarre history; its unique take on the titular legend; and why it's a great reprieve from traditional creature features!
