Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep764: Mind Over Mullet: An Interview w/ BEING PATRICK SWAYZE Author NEAL E. FISCHER

Ian has the time of his life talking with Neal Fischer, author of Being Patrick Swayze!

Sure, this colorful, hilarious hardcover may feature drinking games, trivia, fashion tips, and a bona fide connect-the-dots puzzle of the iconic Road House star--but Fischer's book is also a sweet and insightful examination of a dancer, actor, and conservationist who left the world far too soon.

In this episode, Fischer talks about growing up a Swayze fan; some of the performer's notable triumphs and challenges; the years-long process from inspiration to publication, and even shares some brain-bending material that didn't make it into the book!

Plus: The guys look back on 35 years of Dirty Dancing!
