Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep748: GASOLINE ALLEY (2022) - Movie Review

Ian welcomes back Mark "The Movie Man" Krawczyk for a look at the umpteenth COVID-era Bruce Willis movie, Gasoline Alley!

Devon Sawa stars as Jimmy Jayne, an ex-con/tattoo artist who finds himself suspect number one when several call girls are discovered dead in a seedy motel room. Two cops, played by Willis and Luke Wilson, give Jimmy an especially hard time. Could it be that one of them is connected to the murders?

Finding out is a race against the run-time, as crosses are doubled, secrets are revealed, and your trusty critics brew coffee by the gallon! In this very spoilery look at a film that doesn't open 'til Friday, the guys look at Willis' fascinating career trajectory; stand up for one of his recently maligned films, and dig into the frustration of watching Gasoline Alley trip over its own potential at almost every turn.

Gasoline Alley opens Friday, February 25th in select theatres and On Demand.
