Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar Noé, Rachel Brosnahan, Amy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Yes, their 12-month journey exploring the Dracula and Frankenstein movies of Hammer Studios concludes with a look at 1974's The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires.

When Count Dracula (sadly, NOT played by Christopher Lee) possesses the High Priest of an ancient order of Chinese vampires, only Professor Van Helsing (Peter Cushing) and a cadre of kung fu combatants stand in the way of a mighty Mandarin massacre!

In this spoilerific review, the guys dig into the film's bizarre history and talk through their mixed feelings about the end result. Ian confesses to a big movie sin, and Aaron does his best to convince his disillusioned friend that 7 Golden Vampires might be worth another look!
