Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep703: The Last Ted Bundy Movie: An Interview with NO MAN OF GOD Director Amber Sealey

Amber Sealey will be the first to tell you that there are too many movies about serial killer Ted Bundy.

She's also made one herself.

No Man of God tells the story of Bill Hagmaier (Elijah Wood), one of the first FBI profilers, and his years-long Death Row interviews with Bundy (Luke Kirby). Eschewing sensationalism in favor of highly charged performances and dialogue taken from the actual interviews, Sealey adds a new dimension to the killer's ghoulish legend.

In this illuminating conversation, Sealey talks about how she got involved with the project; working with Hagmaier, and the unique perspective she brought to a well-worn story.

No Man of God is now playing in theatres and is available On Demand.
