Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep678: Late Screening: THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS (2001)

In this very special "Late Screening", Ian and Cole catch up with a film neither of them had seen before!

That's right, despite having kicked off their podcasting collaboration in 2017 with a review of The Fate of the Furious, they'd never actually watched Rob Cohen's 2001 underground street racing opus!

Watch as the guys try to untangle the later globe-trotting, sky-diving, terrorist-thwarting antics of Dominic Toretto and company from the straightforward Point Break knock-off in which Paul Walker was supposed to be the breakout star. Also, Ian reveals whether or not he'll watch the upcoming eighth sequel in the series, F9!

"Late Screening" is Kicking the Seat's monthly series in which 'Millennial Correspondent' Cole Rush watches a film he's never seen before and talks with Ian about the experience.
