Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep667: Late Screening: ALIENS

In space, no one can hear you scream, "Happy Anniversary!" Aliens turns 35 this summer, and Ian is eager to facehug the hell out of it. Cole is...not in the partying mood.

Watch as a lifelong fan steps up to defend James Cameron's landmark sci-fi/horror film from someone who just doesn't see what the fuss is about. Can Ian rescue his friend from a secreted-resin cocoon of boredom--or will Cole nuke his enthusiasm from orbit?

Find out who gets the airlock in this very odd battle royale! "Late Screening" is Kicking the Seat's monthly series in which 'Millennial Correspondent' Cole Rush watches a film he's never seen before and talks with Ian about the experience.
