Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep665: All Aboard the DRUNK BUS! An Interview with John Carlucci and Brandon LaGanke

Ian enjoys an intoxicating conversation with Drunk Bus co-directors John Carlucci and Brandon LaGanke!

The audacious and often touching comedy stars Charlie Tahan (Ozark) as Michael, an aimless and heartbroken college townie who drives the titular campus-loop transport. Following an assault, Michael is assigned a philosopher-brute bodyguard named Pineapple (Pineapple Tangaroa) who tries to coax him out of his funk--to hilariously awkward results.

The guys talk about translating LaGanke's real-life experience to the screen (he was the inspiration for Michael, and Pineapple plays a version of himself); the limits of the filmmakers' outrageousness; and the influence of one of Ian, Brandon, and John's favorite films on Drunk Bus's tone!

Drunk Bus is now available On Demand.
