Ep1006: HIT MAN (2024) - Movie Review
Summer is saved (at least for now)! In today's spoilerific deep-dive, Ian and Jeff peel back the many layers of Richard Linklater's new thinking-viewers sensation, Hit Man!
The film, which just landed on Netflix after a brief theatrical run, stars Glen Powell as Gary, a mild-mannered college professor who moonlights as a techie for the local police. When an undercover agent is pulled from the field mere moments before a sting operation, Gary is recruited to pose as a hit man.
He discovers a real knack for becoming other people, and embarks on a double-life career busting bad guys. But what happens when Gary falls in love with one of his would-be perps?
Not what you'd expect, that's for sure!
Watch as Ian and Jeff explore why the darker-than-expected Hit Man is superior to most Hollywood movies ostensibly about adults; how Linklater and Powell (who co-wrote the film) turn tropes on their heads--for better and sometimes for worse; and break down one scene in which the filmmakers reveal a not-so-secret agenda!
