Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Don't Read the Comments! RRR Special Part 2 (11/18/22)

The RRR virtual mailbag is so full, we had to do a second special episode to address all the feedback!

Yes, Ian returns with replies to your questions, comments, and analyses of S.S. Rajamouli's blockbuster historical epic--which includes cultural context lessons, emoji interpretations, and, unbelievably, a hostile take on the movie!

(Don't worry, Ian sets that commenter straight!)

Also, Ian talks about last week's phenomenal event-of-a-lifetime event at Chicago's famed Music Box Theatre, where he and Earth's Mightiest Critics saw RRR on the big screen, saw S.S. Rajamouli participate in a post-screening Q&A--and even met the man himself!*

If you haven't seen RRR yet, stream it on Netflix immediately (or whenever you have a spare 3 hours and 7 minutes)!

*Yes, one key detail was left out during the episode: each member of the EMC had a separate and very special encounter with Mr. Rajamouli (not just the guy telling the story!).
