Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep548: The Slowdown: Skywalker of Arabia

Today, The Kicking the Seat Podcast and writer/director Sujewa Ekanayake close out the first season of "The Slowdown" with a look at David Lynch's 1984 sci-fi oddity, Dune! Joining them for this unconventional discussion is Mike Crowley of You'll Probably Agree, who helps break down the history, controversy, and politics of this galactic imperialist misadventure!

Also, the guys catch up on Sujewa and Mike's current and future indie film projects, and plant the seeds of a rollicking second season!

Lastly, Ian recommends the latest episode of The Spoiler Room Podcast, in which he undergoes some movie therapy regarding Alien: Resurrection!

Episode 548 lets the spice flow!
