Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep539: Late Screening: BETTER OFF Wed

Today, The Kicking the Seat Podcast and Cole Rush of The Quill to Live ski the K-12 while conducting a "Late Screening" of Better Off Dead! In honor of Ian's sixteenth wedding anniversary, which was themed after Savage Steve Holland's 1985 farce, the guys dig into the reasons why this oddball John Cusack vehicle may have changed Cole's mind about an entire decade of film!

Also, Ian recommends Sujewa Ekanayake's YouTube channel (which contains his full-length interview with Ian from earlier this week, as well as Sujewa's new daily film vlogs), and plugs his YouTube-exclusive review of Netflix's new action/rom-com, The Lovebirds with Don Shanahan of Every Movie Has a Lesson!

Episode 539 is pure snow!
